Looking back on the history of dietetics as the only food-focused, self-regulated health profession is a way of highlighting our strengths as well as identifying important areas of growth. Join Jennifer Brady as she highlights the contemporary history of the dietetic profession in Canada as told through the words of some of our longest serving members and considers the question: How does this history continue to shape the professions’ and its practitioners’ professional culture, identity, knowledge base, and engagement in leadership? By cultivating among today’s practitioners a greater appreciation of our profession’s history, and of those who forged a place for dietetics in diverse areas of practice, we create a space to examine the foundations on which the profession was built, and ways to address the challenges we face as a profession today.
