As specialists in food and nutrition, dietitians play a key role in the protection, promotion and support of breastfeeding. This session will explore tools and strategies that dietitians can use in their work with individuals, families, groups and population health initiatives.

 

After this session, participants will be able to:

  • Review the national breastfeeding recommendations and supporting research;
  • Identify tools and resources dietitians can use to support individuals, families and groups in meeting their breastfeeding goals; and
  • Identify strategies to create more supportive environments for breastfeeding including implementation of the Baby-Friendly Initiative, upholding the WHO’s International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes and establishing evidence informed infant feeding policies.
